Cervical Disc Replacement Surgery

FDA Approved

Prestige™ Artificial Cervical Disc

The Prestige is an artificial cervical disc that is FDA approved  in the United States. It is a stainless steel metal-on-metal implant using screw fixation into the bone for immediate and permanent fixation. This cervical disc replacement device is unique compared to all other artificial cervical discs because of its ball and trough design versus a ball and socket. This allows for a coupled motion of both flexion/extension and translation. For more information on the clinical studies and FAQ please visit the Prestige website.

ProDisc-C™ Artificial Cervical Disc

The ProDisc-C Total Disc Replacement implant received FDA approval in 2007. This cervical disc replacement is composed of metal endplates on the top and bottom (cobalt chromium molybdenum) and a plastic inlay (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) that form a ball-and-socket joint. The ProDisc-C provides the possibility of motion by allowing the top endplate to move over the plastic ball attached to the bottom endplate. The materials used in the artificial cervical disc have been used in artificial disc replacement for more than 20 years in Europe and are the most commonly used materials in knee and hip replacements worldwide.  Learn more from the ProDisc-C artificial cervical disc website.

Kineflex-C™ Artificial Cervical Disc

The Kineflex-C is a metal-on-metal cervical disc replacement that uses a mobile bearing design, allowing translational movement defined by a specially designed retention ring. It has been used in clinical trials internationally since January 2003, and clinical trials began in the United States in 2005.

NeoDisc™ Artificial Cervical Disc

The NeoDisc cervical disc replacement consists of three parts: a solid silicone core (with no silicone gel) that acts like a cushion similar to a normal intervertebral disc, an encapsulating jacket formed from a polyester textile that is manufactured using computer-controlled embroidery technology, and standard titanium alloy bone fixation screws. The NeoDisc is unique because it is compressible. No other artificial disc has this property.

Discover™ Artificial Cervical Disc

The Discover is a chrome cobalt disc that has an ultra-high molecular weight density polyethylene insert. It has teeth allowing for immediate fixation to the bone with long-term bony ingrowth.

M6™ Artificial Cervical Disc

Engineered to replicate your own cervical disc, the M6 is the only artificial cervical disc that incorporates an artificial nucleus (made from polycarbonate urethane) and a woven fiber annulus (made from polyethylene). The M6 artificial nucleus and annulus are designed to provide the same motion characteristics of a natural disc.
