Dr. Thomas Coburn

Dr. Thomas CoburnDr. Coburn has a longstanding interest in orthopedics and sports medicine. After graduating with honors from the University of Iowa medical school, he completed his residency in family medicine at Fort Ord, CA. He practiced as a military physician, providing comprehensive care for our troops and their families. He was especially involved with treatment and rehabilitation of injured soldiers. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Colonel after having served his last overseas duty in Iraq. He is the recipient of many military honors, including the Bronze Star Medal.

Dr. Coburn moved to Colorado 15 years ago and maintained his military ties through the National Guard. As the state surgeon and commander of the Colorado Medical Detachment, Dr. Coburn was responsible for the overall care and readiness of our National Guard troops. He joined Associates in Family Medicine in 1997, and he has served as chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Medical Center of the Rockies for the past six years.

At Associates in Family Medicine, his practice included sports medicine, obstetrics, pediatric care, and general family medicine. Working with his family medicine patients, Dr. Coburn has seen how important spine and orthopedic health is to maintaining a high quality of life. Joining The Spine Institute has offered him the opportunity to assist patients in their quest to identify the cause of their symptoms and guide them through their treatment options.
